For residents, Monday’s event offers both a new dining option and a rare opportunity to walk away with a year of free meals.
Bottom Line
If you’re aiming to win, this isn’t a “show up at 9:55” situation. It’s a get-there-early, bring-a-chair, and commit to the line kind of morning.
Because come 10 a.m., 50 people in Loganville will be celebrating more than just a grand opening—they’ll be eating free burgers all year long. |
Special Kneads and Treats Hosts 8th Annual Gala-Q at Graystone Church |
Medieval-themed fundraiser highlights courage, community, and a powerful mission |
LOGANVILLE, GA — On Friday, March 13, the community gathered at Graystone Church for the 8th Annual Gala-Q benefiting Special Kneads and Treats, Inc., an organization dedicated to empowering special needs adults through meaningful employment and community outreach. This year’s Gala-Q embraced a medieval knight theme, symbolizing bravery, resilience, and the triumph over adversity—values that closely reflect the mission of Special Kneads and Treats. The atmosphere was brought to life with the presence of knights from Medieval Times, adding a memorable and immersive element to the evening.
The event began with an exclusive cocktail hour honoring long-time sponsors whose continued generosity has played a vital role in sustaining the organization’s mission. Guests then enjoyed a catered dinner prepared by The Master’s Table, setting the stage for a night of inspiration and community connection.
Following dinner, attendees heard from several speakers, including founder Michael Kohler, whose vision established Special Kneads and Treats as a cornerstone of support for special needs adults in the region. Additional remarks came from key donors and members of the bakery’s workforce, offering heartfelt insights into the daily impact of the organization’s programs.
A highlight of the evening was the live auction, which featured an extensive selection of items. Guests had the opportunity to bid on signed sports memorabilia, artwork from local artists, curated gift baskets, and exclusive vacation packages, all donated to support the cause.
The fundraising goal for this year’s Gala-Q was set at $500,000, reflecting the organization’s growing reach and the increasing demand for its services.
Special Kneads and Treats, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Lawrenceville, provides job training and employment opportunities for special needs adults in a safe and supportive environment. Through hands-on work in the bakery, participants gain valuable skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose.
Central to the organization’s mission is its “Cakes for Kiddos” program, which ensures that every child—regardless of financial circumstances—can celebrate their birthday with a cake. Partnering with local food cooperatives, foster care organizations, and community groups, the program extends its reach to families, seniors, and individuals in need.
Grounded in Christian, family-oriented values, Special Kneads and Treats continues to serve the community by combining compassion, service, and opportunity. Events like the Gala-Q not only raise critical funds but also highlight the powerful impact of inclusion and support for individuals of all abilities.
As the evening concluded, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and appreciation for the work being done—reminded that, much like the knights celebrated throughout the night, courage and compassion can truly change lives. |

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month: What to Know |
Piedmont Eastside highlights the importance of early detection, risk factors, screening and treatment. |
Snellville, Ga. (March 19, 2026) – Piedmont Eastside physicians want to educate people about colorectal cancer and what you can do to decrease your risk of developing it or enable an earlier, more curable diagnosis.
Colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in the United States. More than half of all colorectal cancers can be linked to preventable risk factors like high body weight, lack of physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption or unhealthy diet.
The American Cancer Society recommends people start regular colorectal cancer screenings at age 45 and continue through age 75. People at high risk based on family history or other factors should start before age 45. Not all colorectal cancer cases can be prevented but there are ways to lower your risk.
“Screenings are recommended for adults age 45 and up or earlier if you have a high risk or family history,” Piedmont Eastside colorectal surgeon Luz Angel, M.D., says. “Talk to your primary care doctor to discuss if having a colonoscopy or using an at-home test kit is right for you. It could save your life.”
To reduce your risk of colorectal cancer, consider a healthier diet with more fiber and leafy vegetables, more exercise and no tobacco use. “A high-fiber diet greatly helps maintain colon health by making bowel movements easier to pass and keeping the colon clearer,” says Dr. Angel. “Everyone should incorporate more whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies into their diets along with drinking at least six cups of water per day.”
Many colorectal cancers do not cause symptoms in early stages so it can be difficult to detect without screenings. Common signs and symptoms may include blood in the stool, change in bowel habits or stool appearance, stomach cramping or pain, poor appetite, unexplained weight loss or weakness.
“Innovative colorectal cancer treatment options may include chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiation therapy,” Piedmont Eastside medical oncologist Sami Ali, M.D., says. “PiedmontOncology and Piedmont Eastside specialists will be there for patients in their time of need to provide a high-quality cancer treatment plan close to home.”
