Bloomingdale, GA — December 28, 2025
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested Franklin Leonard James Jr., a 16-year-old Savannah resident, in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Antonio Thornton Jr. from Loganville earlier this month.
James faces several serious charges, including felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and multiple firearm offenses.
He is currently held at the Savannah Regional Youth Detention Center and will be charged as an adult.
The incident occurred outside Magnolia Lane Apartments in Bloomingdale on December 14, where authorities discovered Thornton’s body following a 911 call.
An autopsy is underway at the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler to determine the precise cause of death.

Buddhist monks on a 2,300-mile “Walk for Peace” spent New Year’s night at Walton County Fire Station 13 in Walnut Grove, drawing significant attention from local residents.
Their cross-country journey, which began 67 days ago in Fort Worth, Texas, aims to spread peace, compassion, and loving kindness as they travel to Washington, D.C.
Community members gathered to welcome the monks, showing strong support for their message.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office coordinated the event, inviting visitors but cautioning against parking violations due to heavy congestion in the residential area.
As crowds grew, officials advised visitors to wait for a new location and schedule, citing safety concerns and limited parking near Guthrie Road.
