Georgia’s national championship dreams were dashed in dramatic fashion, as the Bulldogs fell to Ole Miss 39-34 in the Sugar Bowl on a last-second field goal in New Orleans.

Georgia rallied back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game with under a minute left.

But Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss connected on a 40-yard pass in the closing seconds, setting up Lucas Carneiro’s clutch 47-yard kick to win it.

A desperate final play by Georgia ended in a safety, sealing their fate.

The loss marked the second straight season Georgia’s playoff hopes ended in the Caesars Superdome, leaving fans stunned.

Key moments included a risky fourth-down gamble by coach Kirby Smart that backfired and missed scoring chances deep in Ole Miss territory.

Despite heroic efforts from Gunner Stockton and Zachariah Branch, Georgia ends its season 12-2, while Ole Miss continues its unlikely playoff run.

WALTON COUNTY, Ga. — January 1, 2026

Buddhist monks on a 2,300-mile “Walk for Peace” spent New Year’s night at Walton County Fire Station 13 in Walnut Grove, drawing significant attention from local residents.

Their cross-country journey, which began 67 days ago in Fort Worth, Texas, aims to spread peace, compassion, and loving kindness as they travel to Washington, D.C.

Community members gathered to welcome the monks, showing strong support for their message.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office coordinated the event, inviting visitors but cautioning against parking violations due to heavy congestion in the residential area.

As crowds grew, officials advised visitors to wait for a new location and schedule, citing safety concerns and limited parking near Guthrie Road.

Photos captured the warm reception as Walnut Grove marked a peaceful start to 2026.
