Loganville native Deivon Smith is generating excitement in his hometown after signing a Summer League contract with the Atlanta Hawks. Once a standout at Grayson High, Smith was a highly ranked recruit in 2020 and played college basketball at Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Utah, and most recently St. John’s. His journey through multiple college programs demonstrated his resilience and development as a player. At St. John’s last season, Smith contributed to the team’s Big East double championship, averaging impressive stats and standing out as a reliable scorer and leader. Now, returning to Georgia, he has the chance to prove himself in front of NBA coaches and scouts. While his current contract isn’t guaranteed, the Summer League offers Smith a valuable opportunity to earn a permanent spot with the Hawks. Dr. Shanita Williams of Loganville has been crowned Mrs. Georgia American 2025, securing the title at the statewide pageant on June 29. Representing Walton County, Dr. Williams stood out to judges with her inspiring community advocacy and dedication to youth literacy across Georgia.
Well-known for her leadership and passion in Loganville, Dr. Williams took to social media to share her excitement about the victory. Her commitment to promoting reading among children has been central to her efforts, and she plans to further champion literacy initiatives during her reign.
As the new Mrs. Georgia American, Dr. Williams will represent the state at the upcoming national Mrs. American pageant, joining contestants from across the country. Locally, she will continue working with schools, libraries, and family outreach programs to inspire young readers and empower communities, keeping her focus on education and service throughout the year ahead.
