A Loganville family of five is displaced after a late-night fire destroyed their home Saturday near Highway 81 and Bullock Bridge Road. Firefighters arrived around 10:37 p.m. to find the residence fully engulfed. Luckily, all occupants escaped safely, including the house sitter and the family dog. The Walton County Fire Rescue, aided by additional local crews, battled the blaze through the night, but the home was declared a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by officials. In the wake of the destruction, support for the family has poured in from the Loganville community. Groups like the Rotary Club of Loganville, Your Pie Pizza, Techmazing Heating and Cooling, and the local school system are offering assistance. Gwinnett County Judge Jammie Taire denied bond for Steven Wagner, a 64-year-old man accused of firing three shots inside a busy Lowe’s in Loganville during a confrontation with a suspected shoplifter.
Though no one was injured, prosecutors argued Wagner’s actions posed a clear threat to public safety, especially since there’s no evidence the other individual was armed.
Loganville Police Officer Robert Mullins described the scene as tense, fearing an active shooter situation when responding.
During the hearing, Wagner’s wife and son vouched for his disciplined nature and respect for gun safety, emphasizing his military police background and concealed carry permit.
However, prosecutors highlighted that Wagner’s training should have made him more cautious, not less.
Despite defense objections and the absence of sought-after surveillance footage, Judge Taire declared Wagner a danger and ordered he remain in jail without bond pending further court proceedings. Read More... |
