Loganville police have arrested a suspect in the November fatal shooting of Kimberly Whaley, a beloved CVS employee, bringing new hope to the community after five months of investigation.
Evander Derrell Choates, 28, was charged with felony murder and other offenses following an exhaustive probe involving local, state, and federal agencies.
Chief Dick Lowry emphasized the dedication behind building a case that could stand up in court, explaining the complexity and care taken throughout the process.
Whaley, 62, was killed outside her CVS workplace on Atlanta Highway as she arrived for her shift, in a crime that shocked Loganville and left no robbery or known motive.
Authorities used surveillance footage and license plate readers to track down Choates, who had been identified early but initially released due to lack of evidence.

Loganville is launching Cinco de Mayo festivities early with the much-anticipated Margaritas and Tacos on Main event downtown.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Town Green will fill with local food trucks and restaurants dishing out classic and creative Mexican favorites.
Admission is free, and visitors can sample signature margaritas and street tacos from a tempting array of vendors.
Festivities include a live mariachi band and DJ, promising a fun, energetic scene for friends and families.
Margaritas feature everything from traditional lime to bold, unique flavors, making it easy for every guest to find a new favorite.
