Dozens gathered in Walton County this weekend to honor the memory of the Moore’s Ford lynching, marking 80 years since two Black couples were murdered at the Oconee County line.
The event combined somber reflection, historical education, and a renewed call for justice, coinciding with the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s death for added resonance.
Attendees participated in a reenactment at the original site, visiting key graves and churches tied to the victims.
The lynching, which remains one of America’s most infamous unsolved crimes, involved Roger and Dorothy Malcom and George and Mae Murray Dorsey, who were brutally killed after being ambushed by a mob in 1946.
Despite decades of investigations, no one has ever been charged, fueling continued advocacy from leaders like Tyrone Brooks and local NAACP representatives.
For many, the day underscored the need for remembrance, ongoing civic engagement, and ensuring this difficult history is never forgotten. Read More... |
