Loganville to Host 27th Annual “Ride for America” Memorial Day Motorcycle Event |
LOGANVILLE, GA — On Monday, May 26, hundreds of motorcycle riders will roar through the streets of Loganville in a patriotic display of honor, remembrance, and community spirit. The 27th Annual Ride for America, organized by the American Legion Riders of Loganville Post 233, is set to once again bring together bikers, veterans, and families for one of Georgia’s most cherished Memorial Day traditions. The event kicks off early in the morning at the freshly paved parking lot of the Loganville American Legion Post, where riders gather before the police-escorted journey begins at 9:30 AM. The route winds through towns adorned with waving flags and saluting spectators, culminating in a large community celebration in Madison, GA. There, residents roll out the red carpet to welcome the procession, complete with a Memorial Day ceremony honoring the nation’s fallen heroes. Returning to Loganville in the afternoon, participants and guests can enjoy a festival-like atmosphere at the Legion post, with food, raffles, commemorative t-shirts, and family-friendly activities. Admission is $10 for riders and $5 for passengers, making it one of the most affordable and meaningful charity rides in the region. Beyond its symbolic significance, the Ride for America serves a vital purpose. Proceeds support the Cpl. Jonathan Ayers Memorial Scholarship, aid local veterans, and contribute to the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund — all part of the broader mission of the American Legion Riders, who number over 106,000 members in more than 1,000 chapters nationwide. “We ride for charity, for honor, and for fun,” say the organizers, emphasizing the event's role in uniting the community under a shared banner of service, remembrance, and patriotism. "Please Help Us": Trip Elementary Fourth-Graders Urge Safety Upgrades After Classmate's Tragic Death |
LOGANVILLE, GA — In a heart-wrenching display of courage and compassion, fourth-grade students from Trip Elementary School in Grayson stood before the Loganville City Council last week, pleading for safety improvements on U.S. Highway 78 following the tragic death of their classmate, 10-year-old London Lambert. London was struck and killed by a truck on the evening of March 2 while attempting to cross the busy highway after breaking free from an older family member's grip. The devastating accident occurred near a grocery store, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Led by their teacher, Hannah McCain, the young students turned their grief into action, using their voices to advocate for safer roads so that no other family has to suffer a similar loss. “The immediate aftermath in our classroom was heart-wrenching,” McCain told council members, her voice trembling with emotion. “But instead of giving in to sadness, these students made it their mission to speak out.” With London’s mother standing quietly at the back of the council chambers, the children took turns at the microphone, remembering their friend as “a very funny and fast boy,” a gifted basketball player, and “a really good friend” whose energy lit up their classroom. One student said, “I want to make sure that what happened to London doesn’t happen to anybody else.” Another added, “He made our class laugh. I’ll always remember London’s energy.” Despite understanding that Highway 78 is a state road and outside the city’s direct jurisdiction, McCain and her students have reached out to state lawmakers to push for change. Their suggestions include more crosswalks, lower speed limits, improved signage, and additional sidewalks and stoplights. “Please help us,” one young girl said simply, her voice echoing the sentiment of the entire classroom. Mayor Skip Baliles responded with empathy, acknowledging the students’ concerns while also noting the complexities of roadway safety — especially at night. Still, he praised the children for speaking out. “Kids, I’m sure London is looking down at what’s going on tonight, and I’m sure he’s very proud of every one of you,” Baliles said. “That’s what it takes in this world.” In the face of tragedy, these students chose action over anger — a powerful example of advocacy, community, and the enduring impact of one young life. |
