MONROE, Ga. — Piedmont Walton Hospital has announced that Vimal Patel, D.O., will assume the role of chief medical officer beginning in January, strengthening the hospital’s leadership team with extensive clinical and administrative experience.
Dr. Patel currently serves as chief medical officer at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, where he oversees medical staff operations, credentialing, and peer review. His responsibilities also include leadership of patient safety initiatives, quality improvement efforts, compliance, and clinical stewardship. He will continue in that role during his transition to Piedmont Walton.
Piedmont Walton CEO Blake Watts said Dr. Patel’s background makes him a strong addition to the hospital’s leadership.
“His leadership experience and dedication to clinical excellence will help us continue to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to our community,” Watts said.
Before stepping into his current executive role, Dr. Patel served as hospitalist medical director at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. In that position, he worked closely with medical staff to improve patient outcomes and implement strategies aimed at reducing hospital-acquired infections. In addition to his leadership duties, he has provided direct patient care as a hospitalist at Piedmont Mountainside as well as Ascension Sacred Heart Emerald Coast in Florida.
Dr. Patel earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lincoln Memorial University’s DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine and is board-certified in internal medicine.
Hospital officials say Dr. Patel’s combination of clinical expertise and administrative leadership will support Piedmont Walton’s ongoing commitment to patient safety, quality care, and operational excellence. For more information about Piedmont Walton Hospital, visit piedmont.org/walton.
