LOGANVILLE — The Loganville Rotary Club continues its commitment to literacy through its annual “Loganville Rotary Gives Books” program, which provides free books to every first-grade student in Loganville elementary schools.

This year, the program reached students at Sharon Elementary School, Bay Creek Elementary School, and Loganville Elementary School, ensuring that hundreds of children received books of their own to take home and keep.

Rotary Club members say the program was originally created as a way to give children a meaningful holiday gift, but it also has a deeper purpose. Through conversations with educators and school leaders, Rotarians learned that many reading challenges stemmed not from a lack of ability, but from a lack of access.

“We found that some students simply didn’t have books at home to practice reading,” Rotary members said. “This program helps remove that barrier.”

The goal of Loganville Rotary Gives Books is to foster reading in the home, where consistent practice can help strengthen literacy skills and build confidence. By placing books directly into students’ hands, the program encourages families to read together and supports early learning beyond the classroom.

Educators have long emphasized that early exposure to reading is critical to academic success. Having age-appropriate books at home allows students to reinforce what they are learning at school and develop a positive relationship with reading at an early age.

Rotary volunteers work with local schools to coordinate  distribution, ensuring that the materials are engaging and appropriate for first-grade readers. Each child receives a book they can call their own, helping to create a sense of pride and ownership in learning.

The Loganville Rotary Club has supported a variety of service initiatives throughout the community, with literacy remaining a core focus. Club leaders say programs like Loganville Rotary Gives Books and giving books to Path United reflect Rotary’s broader mission of service and community investment.

As the program continues, Rotary members hope the simple act of giving a book will have a lasting impact—helping young readers develop skills that will serve them for years to come.
