LOGANVILLE — If you’ve been meaning to clean out old paint cans, pesticides, automotive fluids, batteries, or other hazardous materials sitting around your garage or storage shed, this weekend will provide Loganville residents with a safe and convenient opportunity to properly dispose of them.

Gwinnett Water Resources and Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful are once again hosting their Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, June 13, at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville.

The free event will run from 8 a.m. until noon and is designed to help residents safely dispose of potentially dangerous household materials that should never be poured down drains, thrown in regular trash, or dumped outdoors.

Officials say improperly disposing of hazardous chemicals can contaminate waterways, damage plumbing and septic systems, harm wildlife, and create environmental hazards throughout the community.

Residents are allowed to bring up to five containers of household hazardous waste for disposal at no charge. Acceptable containers include laundry baskets, copy paper boxes, or similarly sized bins.

Organizers note that containers used to transport items will not be returned.

Common household items typically accepted during the collection event include:
• Paints and paint thinners
• Pesticides and herbicides
• Household cleaners and chemicals
• Automotive fluids and motor oil
• Batteries
• Pool chemicals
• Fluorescent bulbs and other hazardous household products

The event has become increasingly popular with Gwinnett residents looking for a responsible way to clean out garages, workshops, and storage areas while helping protect local water systems and the environment.

For Loganville residents, the event offers a nearby disposal option without having to store hazardous materials at home or risk throwing them away improperly.

The Gwinnett County Fairgrounds are located at 2405 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville. Drivers should use the main entrance off Sugarloaf Parkway at the traffic light.

Residents looking for a complete list of accepted and prohibited items can call 678-376-6785 or visit GwinnettCB.org/Events for additional details.

Organizers encourage residents to arrive early, as traffic can become heavy closer to midday.
