A Loganville man is one of two individuals facing federal charges following what authorities describe as a coordinated operation targeting the alleged distribution of large quantities of fentanyl in metro Atlanta.
Osiel Adame-Gomez, 27, of Loganville, and Miguel Velazquez-Garcia, 26, of Atlanta, appeared in federal court this month after being charged in separate criminal complaints with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
“Fentanyl is a highly lethal weapon of mass destruction that the narco-terrorist cartels have wormed into our country,” said U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “We will continue to aggressively pursue and prosecute fentanyl traffickers to keep the community safe from this deadly drug threat.”
“This seizure underscores the power of coordinated enforcement efforts,” said Jae W. Chung, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Field Division. “Together with our federal, state, and local partners, we are aggressively targeting the sources of fentanyl distribution and the financial infrastructure that sustains it. Every enforcement action brings us closer to a Fentanyl-Free America.”
February 5 Arrest in Doraville and Dunwoody
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and criminal complaints filed in federal court, DEA agents earlier this month learned of an intended fentanyl sale at a Doraville warehouse involving a rented moving truck.
On Feb. 5, 2026, agents observed Adame-Gomez with the truck at the warehouse. Authorities allege he later drove to a second location, exited the vehicle carrying a black backpack, and entered a storage facility. After emerging without the backpack, agents attempted to stop him, but he fled.
Law enforcement officers eventually apprehended Adame-Gomez in Dunwoody. A subsequent search of the storage facility led to the recovery of a black backpack containing approximately one kilogram of fentanyl, valued at roughly $30,000, according to federal authorities.
February 9 Traffic Stop and Additional Seizures
Four days later, on Feb. 9, 2026, DeKalb County police officers stopped Velazquez-Garcia’s vehicle in Stone Mountain. A police K9 alerted to the presence of narcotics. During a search of the vehicle, officers located approximately one kilogram of fentanyl.
Further searches of residences associated with Velazquez-Garcia in Stone Mountain and Stonecrest resulted in the seizure of an additional three kilograms of fentanyl and what authorities described as a large amount of suspected drug proceeds.
Court Appearances and Custody Status
Adame-Gomez appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge John K. Larkins III on Feb. 9, 2026. Velazquez-Garcia appeared before the same judge on Feb. 11, 2026. Both men were ordered to remain in federal custody without bond pending trial.
Federal officials emphasized that criminal complaints contain allegations only. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
The cases are being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration with assistance from the Gwinnett County Police Department and the DeKalb County Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Johnny Baer, Jamie Bircoll, and John DeGenova are prosecuting the cases.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the investigation is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the resources of the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and address violent crime.
