Loganville - During the June 11 City Council meeting, Mayor Branden Whitfield, on behalf of the Loganville City Council, presented an America 250 Proclamation recognizing the nation's upcoming Semiquincentennial. Members of the Matthew Talbot Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) were on hand for the special presentation.
The proclamation recognizes July 4, 2026 as the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and encourages Americans to reflect on the nation's history while looking toward the future.
"This milestone offers an opportunity to honor the sacrifices and achievements of those who built our country while inspiring future generations to uphold the ideals of freedom, democracy and individual liberty," the proclamation states.
The document also highlights Georgia's important role in the nation's founding. Established in 1733 as the youngest of the original Thirteen Colonies, Georgia played a vital part in the Revolutionary War, with patriots participating in numerous battles and campaigns that helped secure American independence.
As communities across the country commemorate America 250, descendants of Revolutionary War patriots, along with civic organizations and volunteers, will continue promoting educational programs, preservation projects and community events through 2033, celebrating both the nation's birth and its lasting legacy.
The proclamation also recognizes the Georgia State Society DAR and the Matthew Talbot Chapter for their efforts to educate the public about American history and promote America 250 activities throughout Georgia.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890, is one of the nation's largest lineage-based women's service organizations. In addition to preserving American history, the organization supports education, historic preservation, scholarships and veterans programs.
The Matthew Talbot Chapter, based in Monroe, serves Walton County and surrounding communities. Named for Revolutionary War patriot and former Georgia Governor Matthew Talbot, the chapter remains active in historical preservation, educational outreach and patriotic programs throughout the region as the nation prepares to celebrate its historic 250th anniversary. |
