The City of Loganville Fire Department has been awarded the 2025 Walton County Health Care Foundation Grant, marking a major step forward in the department’s ability to provide advanced emergency care to the community. Thanks to this grant, Loganville will acquire two additional LUCAS CPR devices—automated machines designed to deliver high-quality, hands-free chest compressions during cardiac emergencies.
With the arrival of the new equipment, each of Loganville’s three fire stations will now be fully equipped with a LUCAS device, ensuring consistent, uninterrupted CPR coverage across the city. The upgrade is expected to significantly enhance the department’s life-saving capacity during critical medical calls.
“The addition of two more LUCAS devices represents a tremendous advancement in our emergency response capabilities,” the department said in its public announcement. “We extend our sincere appreciation to the Walton County Health Care Foundation for their continued support of our mission to serve and protect our community.”
A Lifesaving Tool in the Hands of First Responders
The LUCAS device—short for Lund University Cardiac Arrest System—is a battery-powered machine that performs chest compressions at the precise depth and rate recommended by the American Heart Association. Designed to relieve emergency responders of the physically demanding task of manual CPR, the device delivers uninterrupted compressions even while patients are being moved or transported, significantly improving outcomes for cardiac arrest victims.
Studies have shown that automated CPR can help maintain blood flow to the brain and heart as effectively as high-quality manual compressions, while reducing the fatigue and interruptions that human responders often face during prolonged resuscitation efforts.
By completing its citywide deployment of these devices, Loganville’s fire and EMS teams will be better equipped to deliver consistent care when every second counts.
Support from the Walton County Health Care Foundation
The Walton County Health Care Foundation was established in 2003 following the sale of Walton Regional Medical Center, with roughly $34 million in assets. Since then, it has served as a vital source of funding for community health initiatives across Walton County, investing in programs and equipment that enhance healthcare delivery, education, and emergency services.
Each year, the Foundation awards grants from the earnings on its investments, with a focus on charitable, scientific, and educational projects that improve the well-being of local residents.
This isn’t the first time Loganville Fire Department has benefited from the Foundation’s generosity. In 2019, the department received a $15,000 grant to purchase its first LUCAS device. The 2025 award builds on that success, ensuring that every station in the city has access to this advanced life-saving technology.
A Growing Role in Community Health
Founded as a traditional fire service, the Loganville Fire Department has evolved into a full-time, career department with a strong emphasis on emergency medical response. With three fire stations and 27 full-time personnel operating around the clock, the department responds to hundreds of medical calls each year—far more than fire-related incidents.
The growing integration of EMS capabilities into fire service operations reflects national trends and underscores the importance of tools like the LUCAS system in supporting rapid, reliable care.
Over the years, Loganville firefighters have been recognized for their life-saving efforts, including a notable 2018 cardiac arrest save that earned community praise and highlighted the effectiveness of timely intervention. With continued support from organizations like the Walton County Health Care Foundation, the department is poised to build on that legacy.
A Safer, Stronger Loganville
The addition of the two new LUCAS CPR devices symbolizes more than just new equipment—it represents a broader investment in public safety, preparedness, and the health of the Loganville community. With all three stations now equipped to deliver state-of-the-art CPR, residents can rest easier knowing that help is never far away, and that it’s more capable than ever.
