School officials say Katie McDevitt was placed on administrative leave weeks before her arrest; her attorney strongly denies the allegations and questions the arrest warrant. |

LOGANVILLE, GA — October 20, 2026 — A teacher and softball coach at Loganville Christian Academy (LCA) is facing a felony charge involving allegations of inappropriate communication and conduct with a minor, prompting a law enforcement investigation, action by school administrators, and a public denial from the accused educator's attorney.
Katie Elizabeth McDevitt, 28, was arrested by the Walton County Sheriff's Office and booked into the Walton County Jail on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Authorities have identified the charge as grooming a minor. Earlier local reporting also described the case as involving sexual exploitation of a minor.
The allegations involve a minor who was not enrolled at Loganville Christian Academy, according to a statement released by school administrators.
Investigation began weeks before arrest
According to information provided by Loganville Christian Academy, school officials first learned of the investigation on or about September 24, when the Walton County Sheriff's Office notified administrators that McDevitt was under investigation for alleged inappropriate communications with a minor.
School officials say McDevitt was immediately placed on administrative leave following that notification.
In a letter distributed to LCA families, administrators acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and the concern it could generate among parents and students.
The school explained that it had been unable to disclose details of the investigation to families earlier because of the ongoing law enforcement process.
LCA also emphasized that the minor involved was not a student at the academy and that school officials were unaware of any allegations involving currently enrolled students.
The academy said it has remained in communication with investigators and continues to follow developments in the case. In its statement, LCA stressed that protecting students and maintaining the trust of families remain central priorities for the school.
Allegations reportedly involve travel softball player
In addition to her work at Loganville Christian Academy, McDevitt coached a local travel softball team.
According to an affidavit described in reporting by 11Alive, the investigation involves allegations that McDevitt engaged in inappropriate communications and interactions with a 15-year-old player associated with the Georgia Strike softball program. Investigators allege the conduct occurred between February 1 and September 22, 2026.
The allegations include romantic messages and efforts to arrange situations where McDevitt and the minor would be alone at a softball training facility. Investigators also allege that private communications continued after the player's mother attempted to intervene.
The minor reportedly described physical interactions that made her uncomfortable. The publicly reported affidavit does not provide detailed descriptions of those interactions.
These claims remain allegations and have not been established in court.
Georgia Strike Softball reportedly ended McDevitt's coaching involvement after learning of the investigation. The organization issued a statement emphasizing its commitment to the safety and well-being of its players and their families.
Defense attorney disputes allegations
McDevitt's attorney, David Boyle of Crawford & Boyle LLC, has strongly challenged the accusations and raised questions about the information contained in the arrest warrant.
In a statement provided to FOX 5 Atlanta, Boyle said his client denies the allegations and intends to contest the case in court.
Boyle characterized the arrest warrant as lacking sufficient detail, arguing that it does not identify the alleged victim or specify any sexual offense or attempted sexual conduct.
He also said McDevitt cooperated with investigators and voluntarily surrendered her cellphone and computer, which he maintains would help refute the allegations.
The defense attorney's comments underscore that the accusations are disputed and that the legal process is still in its early stages.
McDevitt reportedly released on bond
McDevitt was booked into the Walton County Jail on October 15 and reportedly released the following day after posting a $7,500 bond, according to reporting attributed to 11Alive.
Specific conditions of her release have not been independently confirmed.
Court records cited by Atlanta News First and WSB-TV indicate that McDevitt is expected to appear in court for a hearing in mid-November. An exact hearing date was not established in the reports reviewed.
School emphasizes student safety
For Loganville Christian Academy families, the arrest has brought attention to how schools and youth athletic programs respond when employees or coaches become the subject of criminal investigations.
In its communication to parents, the academy acknowledged that the allegations could be troubling for families who entrust the school with their children's education and care.
Administrators said they acted immediately upon receiving notification from law enforcement, maintained cooperation with investigators, and sought to balance transparency with the need to protect privacy and avoid interfering with the investigation.
The academy has reiterated that it is unaware of allegations involving any of its enrolled students.
McDevitt's name and photograph were no longer displayed on the school's website when FOX 5 Atlanta reported on the case. Her current employment status beyond the previously announced administrative leave has not been independently confirmed.
Investigation and legal proceedings continue
The Walton County Sheriff's Office has not publicly disclosed all details surrounding the investigation, and additional information could emerge through future court proceedings.
Questions concerning the full scope of the allegations, the evidence collected, and the legal arguments raised by the defense remain unresolved.
McDevitt is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
Loganville News & Events and The Loganville Pulse will continue following the case as additional verified information becomes available.
