A multi-agency investigation led by the Loganville Fire Marshal’s Office has resulted in the arrest of a Lilburn man accused of setting a series of fires, including multiple incidents within the city of Loganville.
Investigation Originated in Loganville
The case began with a March 26 structure fire in Loganville that quickly escalated into a broader investigation. Within minutes of that initial incident, firefighters responded to three separate fires in the area: a brush fire on Logan Drive, a commercial structure fire on C.S. Floyd Road, and another fire off Atlanta Highway.
Fire investigators determined that all three fires were intentionally set, prompting an immediate and coordinated response led by the Loganville Fire Marshal’s Office.
Loganville Fire Marshal Leads Multi-Agency Effort
Working alongside local and state agencies across Walton, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties, the Loganville Fire Marshal’s Office played a central role in identifying the suspect. Surveillance footage and investigative coordination across jurisdictions ultimately led to the arrest of 42-year-old Javon J. Heard of Lilburn.
Authorities say the case highlights the importance of rapid response and inter-agency cooperation, with Loganville investigators helping connect incidents that spanned multiple counties.
Commercial Fire Caused Significant Damage
One of the fires, located at a commercial property on C.S. Floyd Road, caused significant damage to part of a strip-style building. Officials noted that a fire-rated wall prevented the blaze from spreading further and likely saved the remainder of the structure.
Charges Filed in Multiple Jurisdictions
Heard is currently in custody in DeKalb County on additional arson-related charges. In Loganville, he faces multiple charges including first-degree arson, criminal damage to property, burning of wildlands, and reckless conduct.
Loganville Fire Chief Commends Investigation
Loganville Fire Chief Tim Johnson praised the work of the Fire Marshal’s Office and partnering agencies for their efforts in bringing the case together.
“I would like to publicly recognize the Loganville Fire Marshal’s Office for their hard work in tying all of the scenes together and locating the person responsible,” Johnson said. “This was an outstanding job by everyone involved.”
Ongoing Reminder to the Community
Officials remind residents that arson investigations are complex and often require coordination across multiple jurisdictions. The successful identification and arrest in this case underscores the critical role of local fire investigators in protecting the community.
