LOGANVILLE, GA – October 23, 2025 – In a powerful show of community spirit and service above self, the Loganville Rotary Club’s Kurt Hansen Fund has donated $40,000 to The Friends of the O’Kelly Memorial Library to help fund construction of the new O’Kelly Memorial Library in downtown Loganville.
The donation was presented on Thursday morning during the Rotary’s weekly meeting, and it represents one of the largest single contributions to date toward the new library’s fundraising campaign. The Friends of the O’Kelly Memorial Library are working to raise additional funds to ensure the new facility meets the growing needs of the Loganville community.
The new O’Kelly Memorial Library, currently under construction on Main Street near the intersection of Covington and Lucy Streets, will replace the existing facility on Conyers Road, which has served Loganville for more than three decades. The new library will feature modern technology, expanded children’s and teen areas, meeting rooms, a makerspace, and outdoor programming space—all designed to make it a central hub for community learning and engagement.
As part of the donation, one of the rooms in the new library will be dedicated in honor of Kurt Hansen and the Loganville Rotary Club, recognizing their long-standing commitment to education, literacy, and local service.
The Kurt Hansen Fund, established in memory of longtime Rotarian and local pharmacist Kurt Hansen, receives 10% of all donations and fundraising proceeds collected by the Loganville Rotary Club—including from their signature events such as the annual Charity Golf Tournament and Wing Fling—which are held each spring. The fund supports local projects that enhance life in Loganville, particularly initiatives focused on youth and learning.
During the presentation, Kurt’s wife, Sharon Hansen, spoke about her husband’s dedication to service and his desire to provide the City of Loganville with something substantial that would continue to benefit generations to come. She shared that the new library is the perfect project for the Kurt Hansen Fund and a meaningful reflection of Kurt’s lifelong commitment to community.
The new O’Kelly Memorial Library project is a collaboration between the City of Loganville, Walton County, the State of Georgia, and the Friends of the Library. Construction of the first phase is underway, with completion expected in 2026.
