WALTON COUNTY, GA — A helicopter crash in the Monroe area of Walton County sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries on Wednesday morning, September 10.
According to Walton County Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Craig League, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on Mount Paran Church Road, south of Monroe, at approximately 10:54 a.m. The helicopter caught fire and was completely destroyed.
“The helicopter caught fire and burned,” League confirmed. “The cause of the crash is unknown at this time.”
Both the pilot and a passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported by Walton County EMS to Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. Their conditions have not yet been released.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and fire. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. |
