Guthrie’s Chicken Fingers in Grayson has closed its doors as of February 10, 2026, ending its run in the community after roughly a year in operation.
While the Grayson location was relatively new, the brand itself carries decades of Southern tradition. Founded in 1965 in Haleyville, Alabama, Guthrie’s is widely recognized as the original chicken finger-focused restaurant. Long before national chicken chains filled the market, Guthrie’s built its reputation on a simple formula: fresh, hand-breaded chicken fingers cooked to order, served with crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, creamy coleslaw, and its signature dipping sauce.
That signature sauce — tangy, peppery, and unmistakably Guthrie’s — remains a defining feature of the brand. Combined with sweet tea and hot, crispy tenders, it has helped create loyal fans across the Southeast. Though its time in Grayson was brief, the restaurant quickly attracted customers who appreciated its straightforward menu and consistent quality. For many, it became a convenient stop for a reliable meal — no complicated options, just chicken fingers done right.
The closure leaves a noticeable gap for those who had begun making it part of their dining rotation. Even in a short time, Guthrie’s managed to introduce its classic Southern flavor to the area, and for fans of the brand, it’s disappointing to see it depart so soon.
While Guthrie’s continues operating and expanding in other markets, its exit from Grayson serves as a reminder that even well-established regional brands don’t always gain a long-term foothold in every community. |
