A former cheer coach with local ties has been sentenced to 25 years after pleading guilty to multiple charges tied to the sexual exploitation of minors, according to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office.

On April 3, 2026, Charles Archibald Moore III, 33, of Loganville, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of children, invasion of privacy, grooming of a minor, and electronically furnishing obscene material to minors. He was sentenced to 25 years, with the first 12 years to be served in prison.

The sentencing marks the latest development in a case that first came to light in 2024 and involved a multi-agency investigation led by the Loganville Police Department, with assistance from deputies and investigators in Gwinnett and Barrow counties.

Moore was initially arrested in May 2024 in connection with allegations involving a 16-year-old female. According to incident reports and arrest warrants previously released by the Loganville Police Department, the allegations centered on an incident said to have occurred in a vehicle parked behind the Starbucks in Loganville on Dec. 26, 2023.

Investigators alleged Moore videotaped the sexual act on his cellphone and later sent the recording to the victim.

Authorities said the case was first brought to the attention of law enforcement by a student at Walnut Grove High School, prompting an investigation by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. By that point, Moore was no longer employed by Walton County School District.

Walton County School District previously stated that Moore had served as a lay coach for the Walnut Grove High School competition cheerleaders in the fall of 2022, with his service ending in January 2023. District officials said his departure from the school system was unrelated to the allegations that later surfaced and noted that the alleged incident did not occur on any school district property.

In June 2024, the investigation expanded when the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office announced an additional charge of sexual exploitation of children tied to Moore’s former employment at Star Athletics in Winder. Moore was arrested again on June 25, 2024, after investigators from Loganville Police Department, Gwinnett County Police Department, and the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at his Snellville home.

At the time, Barrow County authorities said they believed there could be additional victims who had not yet come forward.

“We believe there are other victims who have not come forward,” Barrow County investigator Heather Stafford said in a June 2024 release. “We really want to let these girls know that they will not be in trouble if they come forward with information relating to Mr. Moore’s behavior.”

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith also spoke strongly about the case during the investigation, calling Moore “a predator” and praising the cooperation between agencies and Star Athletics staff.

The case drew significant attention locally because of Moore’s prior roles working with cheer athletes in both school and private gym settings. Law enforcement officials have repeatedly encouraged anyone who may have had contact with Moore and believes they may have been victimized to contact authorities.
