Loganville’s Own Deivon Smith Signs with Atlanta Hawks for NBA Summer League

From Local Courts to the National Stage, Devon’s Journey Inspires a City

Exclusive

LOGANVILLE, GA — July 7, 2025
From the hardwood of Loganville to the national spotlight, Deivon Smith is making his hometown proud. The former Grayson High School standout has officially signed a Summer League contract with the Atlanta Hawks, giving him the opportunity to fight for a permanent spot with his home-state team—and Loganville is buzzing with pride.

For those who have followed Deivon’s journey from day one, this moment feels like destiny.

A Hometown Hero with National Grit

Smith’s road to professional basketball hasn’t been the typical one—but it’s been one marked by determination, resilience, and next-level talent. A consensus four-star recruit in the Class of 2020, Deivon’s college career took him across the country, suiting up for Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Utah, and St. John’s during his five-year run.

While the journey may have been winding, it only sharpened his game. Last season at St. John’s, Smith was a key part of the Big East double-championship squad, averaging 9.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He shot nearly 35.2% from three-point range, proving himself to be a reliable scorer and floor general.

Now, he’s coming full circle—back to Georgia, back to Atlanta, and back to the people who’ve believed in him all along.

A Shot at the Big Leagues

Signing a Summer League deal with the Atlanta Hawks gives Deivon the platform to showcase his skills in front of NBA coaches, scouts, and executives. While it’s not yet a guaranteed contract, the Summer League is often the proving ground where hustle and heart win out—and anyone who’s watched Smith play knows he brings both every time he steps on the court.

He's not just representing himself or even St. John’s—he’s representing Loganville. And the entire city will be watching when he takes the floor.

A Role Model for the Next Generation

More than just an athlete, Deivon is a symbol of what’s possible for kids growing up on local courts in Walton County. His story is one of talent meeting work ethic—of staying the course even when the path isn’t always straight.

He’s a reminder that greatness can come from right here at home.

What’s Next?

The NBA Summer League tips off later this month in Las Vegas, where Smith will join the Hawks’ roster alongside other rising stars and draft picks. With strong performances, he could earn a training camp invite or even a guaranteed contract with the team.

Regardless of what happens next, Loganville is already proud.

Congratulations, Deivon—your city’s behind you every step of the way. 🏀🔥
