Loganville and surrounding communities are being asked to take extra care and look out for one another as a winter storm and dangerous cold temperatures are expected to move into the area late Friday and continue through the weekend.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say confidence is growing that parts of Walton County, Gwinnett County, and nearby areas could see accumulating snow beginning Friday evening. While totals may not be extreme, even a small amount of snow can quickly make roads slick and unsafe — especially bridges, overpasses, and neighborhood streets that do not get treated.

Strong winds may accompany the storm, making conditions feel even colder and reducing visibility at times.

Cold That Can Be Dangerous

Beyond the snow, the bigger concern for our area may be the intense cold expected to settle in through Sunday. Wind chills could drop well below freezing, with some overnight readings falling into the single digits or even below zero.

This kind of cold can be dangerous, especially for children, older adults, and anyone who must spend time outdoors. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly when skin is exposed, and residents are encouraged to bundle up in layers and limit time outside whenever possible.

Please Check on Each Other

Officials are asking neighbors to take a moment to check on elderly family members, friends, and anyone who may need extra help staying warm. Pets should be brought indoors, and extra care should be taken to protect homes from freezing temperatures by wrapping or slowly dripping water pipes.

If you must travel, please do so only if absolutely necessary and allow plenty of time. Roads may look passable but can freeze quickly,

especially overnight.

Safety Reminders

As families try to stay warm, safety is critical:

  • Use space heaters properly and keep them away from anything flammable

  • Never use grills or generators indoors or in enclosed spaces

  • Make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working

  • Dress warmly with hats, gloves, and face coverings if going outside

Stay Weather Aware

Weather conditions can change quickly, and additional advisories or warnings may be issued as the storm gets closer. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to trusted local weather sources and updates throughout the weekend.

Most importantly, this is a time for the Loganville community to slow down, stay safe, and take care of one another. Loganville News will continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
