From Salutatorian to Spelman Scholar, Eva Jernigan’s All-Star Pitch Caps a Standout Senior Year

Exclusive

Local star and Loganville High School graduate Eva Jernigan took the national stage last Tuesday as she threw the ceremonial first pitch at the 2025 Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves.

Jernigan was selected for this prestigious honor as the Southeast Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Club of America—a title awarded in recognition of her outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, and community service.

“This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is a true testament to Eva’s hard work, character, and passion—not just for baseball, but for life,” said Loganville High School in a heartfelt post on its official Facebook page. “Whether it’s in the classroom or in the community, Eva continues to show us what it means to dream big and go after it.”

And dream big she has.

A standout both in and out of the classroom, Eva graduated as Loganville High School’s 2025 Salutatorian, serving as class vice president for three years, while founding Stellar Start Tutoring and working as a teaching assistant at Kumon. She was a 2024 Governor’s Honors Program finalist in social studies, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and earned the coveted titles of Miss LHS and Prom Queen.

Jernigan’s extracurriculars included membership in FCLA, DECA, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, and Girl Scouts. She also gave back as a volunteer coach for the 12U Red Devils cheer squad.

Athletically, she cheered for Loganville’s varsity football and basketball teams, competed on the cheer competition squad, and was a varsity member of the Lady Red Devils’ track and field team.

Eva’s pitch was seen by a packed crowd of tens of thousands at Truist Park and millions more on national television—an unforgettable moment that capped off a remarkable high school journey. She now heads to Spelman College this fall on a full scholarship, where she plans to major in biochemistry.

With her passion, poise, and persistence, Eva Jernigan exemplifies the kind of student-athlete Loganville strives to cultivate. And this All-Star moment? Just the beginning.
